The roll call vote was: Jeff Bird Yes Amy Landers Yes Brian McBride Yes Kip Nelson Yes Annette Winchester Yes I. Personnel Items - Shalene French Chairperson Winchester asked Dr. French to discuss personnel items with the Board. Dr. French stated that she is recommending that employee F15 be placed on probation for next school year. She is also recommending that the employee attain an independent psychological medical exam and counseling. The individual has already sought help with regard to counseling. Dr. French has worked with Doug Nelson, District Legal Counsel and the principal. Pursuant to policy 5200 Code of Ethics for Professional Educators, the violation was not egregious enough to recommend termination. This recommendation takes into account some personal circumstances as well. The District Insurance Plan allows two counseling sessions and the employee would be required to pay a ny deductible or co-pay for the psychological exam. Dr. French then gave the Board an update on Category 2 employees that are not being offered a contract for next year. There are only two individuals that are not being offered a contract for next year. She feels that the District is hiring better and the mentor program is very helpful. These individuals need to be notified by May 24th that they will not be offered a contract for next year. Mrs. McConnell talked to the Board about a student who brought a knife to school because he is terrified and speaks no English and lives with his uncle and grandfather who don’t speak any English. They will complete a risk assessment and then if he doesn’t pose a big risk they would like to expel with conditional remittance at his current school. The student has a good relationship with the teacher at the school. Part of the conditions of remittance will be attend the LEP Summer School. The student is not a gangster, but just a fearful little boy because of his life circumstances. If the student returns this year, he will monitored closely. Hopefully it will be an expulsion without a hearing. II.
