SMOKING OR USE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND NICOTINE INNOVATIONS
In compliance with the Idaho Clean Indoor Air Act, and IDAPA 16-0223-0401 as well as
to promote the general health, welfare, and well-being of staff and students, smoking or
use of tobacco products and nicotine innovations is banned on all District premises, in
the area within twenty (20) feet of entrances and exits of buildings or facilities, and on
any property, buses, vans, or vehicles that are owned, leased, or controlled by
Bonneville Joint School District No. 93.
Guidelines
Applicable Time and Location
1. Limitations or prohibitions on use of tobacco products or nicotine innovations on
District premises or property are applicable twenty-four (24) hours a day and seven
(7) days per week.
2. Student use or possession of tobacco products or nicotine innovations is also
banned at all school-sponsored events regardless of location.
Delegation of Responsibilities
1. The Board of Trustees delegates to the Superintendent/Designee the responsibility
to require any person in apparent violation of this policy to extinguish all lighted
tobacco products, stop the use of smokeless tobacco, or to stop the use of electronic
devices related to nicotine innovations.
a. A visitor who violates this policy shall be asked to comply with the policy or leave
the premises.
b. Any violation of this policy by employees shall be reported to their immediate
supervisor or the building administrator and may result in disciplinary action up to
and including dismissal for repeated offenses.
c. Students who violate this policy shall be immediately reported the building
administrator and shall be disciplined pursuant to the District Code of Student
Conduct.
2. The Superintendent/Designee may report violations to law enforcement.
Posting Notices
1. Notices indicating that the use of Tobacco Products or use of Nicotine Innovations is
prohibited in school buildings and educational facilities as well as the area within

twenty (20) feet of all entrances and exits of such buildings and facilities shall be
posted on all District owned properties, buildings, facilities, and vehicles.
2. Notices may contain information such as the international no smoking symbols and
references to the Idaho Clean Indoor Air Act.
3. All notices shall be conspicuous, legible, unobscured, and placed at a height and
location easily seen and read by persons entering or within the posted area.
4. Lettering on all notices shall be at least one-inch in height.
DEFINITIONS
Nicotine Innovations: include but are not limited to devices such as electronic
cigarettes, electronic nicotine delivery systems, or vaporizer smoking devices.
Tobacco Products: include but are not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, or
smokeless tobacco in any form.
