ACADEMIC HONORS PROCEDURES
Calculation of GPA
1. Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated and used for class rank.
2. Due to the weighted grade points of Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment
courses it is possible for a student to earn above a 4.0 GPA.
3. The table below shows the numeric breakdown for unweighted and weighted
grades.
Unweighted Weighted
A 93-100 4.00 *A *93-100 5.00
A- 90-92 3.67 *A- *90-92 4.67
B+ 87-89 3.33 *B+ *87-89 4.33
B 83-86 3.00 *B *83-86 4.00
B- 80-82 2.67 *B- *80-82 3.67
C+ 77-79 2.33 *C+ *77-79 3.33

D- 60-62 0.67 *D- *60-62 1.67
F 00-59 0.00 *F *00-59 0.00
4. If a student takes unweighted classes in excess of the minimum graduation
requirement, it is possible that his/her cumulative GPA will be reduced even if an A
(4.0) is earned for those classes.
5. It is the District’s desire to encourage students to take as many academic classes as
possible while removing barriers that might cause a student’s GPA to decrease and
prevent him/her from being considered for Academic Honors
6. If a student wants grades for excess classes to be considered for removal from the
calculation of his/her overall GPA, he/she must complete the following steps:
a. During the student’s senior year, the student will communicate with the building
principal/designee his/her desire to review coursework and GPA for Academic
Honors consideration.
b. The student will complete a Credit Review Form.

Valedictorian Procedures
c. The student will set an appointment with the building principal/designee to review
the form.
d. Requests for adjustments to classes being used for GPA calculations will be
accepted up to May 1 of the student’s senior year.
e. After May 1, all grades for course work showing in PowerSchool will be used as
part of the calculation for the student’s cumulative GPA.
7. If removing classes from the GPA calculation will benefit the student’s cumulative
GPA, the principal/designee will designate those classes to be removed from the
calculation as part of the cumulative GPA.
Grades Showing on the Transcript
1. The adjusted GPA will be calculated on the transcript.
2. All grades will show as part of the student’s transcript even though they may not be
used when calculating the student’s GPA for purposes of Academic Honors.
