XI. Committee, Curriculum, and Administrative Reports
A. Hiah School Construction Report - Brad McKinsey, Owners Representative
Chairman McBride invited Brad McKinsey to give the high school Construction update. Mr. McKinsey reviewed with the
board the four bid projects and the status of each one. GMP1: Earth work — is almost complete including parking lots,
building pads. There is a concern with the fenced boundary/drainage ditch problem. The fence needs to be placed at the
property line then the ditch could be moved away from the road and would not require a culvert. It is preferred to make
these changes and improvements when the water is not in the ditch and when the weather is warm. GMP2: Concrete —
Footers and interior pillars have been poured and underground sewer lines waterline stubbed in. GMP3 Steel Package has
been awarded to Rule Steel from Caldwell, ID with the bid coming in under budget. Steel work is on schedule to start in
early November. GMP4: All other building components — Bids cannot be posted until approval by the Idaho Division Building
Safety (DBS). Headwaters hopes to complete the underground work before the ground freezes.
B. Report on the State of the District - Darren Guthrie, Pine Basin Coordinator
Chairman McBride invited Darren Guthrie to present information on Pine Basin. Mr. Guthrie informed the board that Pine
Basin has been a summer program set up in 1971 for elementary age students. The program includes 40 volunteers and
only seven paid employees, including student counselors. The students are taught about safety, outdoor cooking, and
wilderness training skills, etc. This past summer the entry bridge was non -passable, but the community and District
Leadership came together and the program was able to manage with the handicap. This year the Pine Basin program
experimented by joining with Bonneville Online and created a Work Study Field Biology class for high school students.
Each student who competed the online and field work earned one credit toward their science graduation requirements. Field
work experience is important for college work and future employment. It is the hope of Mr. Guthrie and the Pine Basin
program to continue the high school weeks.
