IV. Items for Discussion
A. Presentation on Color - Hummel Architects
Chairman McBride invited Hummel Team to present the exterior and interior color scheme for Thunder
Ridge HS. Ed Daniels stated the final bid packages will include the school colors. Any changes will need to
be communicated to Headwaters before bid packages can be advertised. Karen Hauser and Brent Davies
presented the color palettes for the new school. The colors schemes proposed were a toned down school
blue, grays, blacks, and beiges for both the exterior and interior design. All entrances to the school were
presented in a blue tone. Auditorium area accents include wood resin panels, acoustic ceiling tiles, and
bright lighting. Exterior concrete will be two toned. Durable quartz particle tile will be in main traffic areas
and all classrooms, except science rooms, will be carpeted, Many of the student common areas have been
relocated due to design approval. The general sense of the color palette was that the toned down blue on
both the exterior and interior was overwhelming and too much like other local high schools. Hummel will
revise the color palette to be more neutral on the exterior and less blue in the interior by intertwining the
other school colors.
B. Supplemental Levy - Guy Wangsgard, Scott Woolstenhulme
Chairman McBride invited Mr. Wangsgard and Mr. Woolstenhulme to lead discussion on the Supplemental
Levy. The supplemental levy is additional funding for the operation of the district and helps to supplement
salaries, support academic programs, and will be the start up for the new high school. The district is
proposing an increase in the supplemental levy to $5.8 million for the next two years. The District would like
the supplemental levy to be on the March 14, 2017 ballot. Information needs to be to the election office by
January 23, 2017. This supplemental levy will not impose any additional tax to the community. Approval
from the board in December 2016 meeting would ensure time to inform the community and district
employees about the levy. It is also proposed that the levy be increased every two years at the projected
market growth rate of 4% as the district continues to grow.
