CLASS SIZE
Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 recognizes that the student-to-teacher ratio is
a significant factor in student achievement. Class loads have a direct impact
upon the achievement of these objectives. Smaller class sizes enhance safety,
discipline and order in the classroom, as well as provide more time for teacher
interaction and intervention. At the same time, student to teacher ratios are
primarily dictated by formulas established in Idaho Code 33-1002.
1. Optimal Student to Teacher Ratio
a. Optimal class size shall be determined each year based on the funding formula
established in Idaho Code as adjusted for typical student average daily
attendance the preceding year.

Flexibility Optimal

K - 3rd 20 .93 .94 1.0 23
4th - 6th 23 .93 .94 1.0 26
7th - 12th 18 .90 .94 .90 24
Alternative 14 .90 .94 1.0 15
2. Class Sizes
a. Average class sizes are influenced by additional factors, including the schedule
and duration of teacher planning time, students participating in online and off-
campus classes, and student participation in independent learning and extended
learning opportunities.
b. Overload Class Sizes are determined when the average class size for a teacher
is more than 20% higher than the optimal class size as shown the Overload
column of the table below:
i. At the elementary level, the Superintendent/designee shall review
overloaded class situations and may place a paraprofessional in the
classroom or offer other solutions when class sizes exceed Overload class
size.

below.
