Call to Order Chairman Bird called the meeting to order at 11:45 a.m. 11, Roll Call Chairman. IV. Bonneville Hiph School Student Council Presentation — Heath Jackson, Principal & Curtis Vickery, Advisor Principal Heath Jackson welcomed the School Board and administration to Bonneville High School and Student Council introductions were made. Top highlights of the Bonneville Bee Student Council for this past year were — • Kiss the Camel — a fundraiser for Adopt -a -Family • Homecoming —floats and decorated hallways • Midnight Movies — held after the basketball games • Valentines for everyone • Letters to Santa • Nobody Sits Alone effort • Cut the Carols — fundraiser for students in need of winter wear • Talent Show — coming up next week • Prom planning — Belle Note' Beautiful Night on May 13th • Anti -Bullying Campaign — banners and bracelets • Ping Pong Tournaments Board of Trustees 0 Jeff Bird J Paul Jenkins � Amy Landers 0 Greg CalderO Chad Dance Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 is an Equa' Opportunity Employer 0 Senior Motto: Stand Out and Rise Up ® Graduation Celebration events Goals for the Student Body included building a powerhouse student council who are proactive in serving each other, the student body, and building strong leadership qualities that will last a lifetime. Creating opportunities for all students to be more involved, supporting all clubs and teams, and sharing Bee Pride invites everyone to love BHS even more. The BHS Student Council encourages participation with the Technical Careers HS in their high school activities. Chairman Bird recognized Bonneville Student Council for receiving the Spirit Award at the Idaho State Student Council Conference. He presented a certificate to Curtis Vickery, Advisor to Student Council. V. Student Recoanition A. Bonneville High School Bee Cheer Squad State and National Champions Chairman Bird invited Heath Jackson to introduce the BHS Bee Cheer Squad Champions and Coaches Candice Dexter, Lesa Martinson, and Brian Martinson. The Cheer Bee Squad are good students and hard workers. The Board honored each squad member with a certificate of recognition. VI. Board Scheduling A. Board Retreat Dates Chairman Bird opened discussion on choosing dates for the summer Board Retreat. The tentative dates for the summer Board Retreat will be held July 26 -July 29, 2017. The location of the retreat has not been determined. VII. Items for Discussion A. Proposed Boundary Changes - Scott Woolstenhulme Chairman Bird invited Scott Woolstenhulme to continue Boundary change discussion. Community meetings dates were discussed and was decide the meeting will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 in the Rocky Mountain Middle School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. It was suggested that a flier be available to circulate. Mr. Woolstenhulme discussed the proposal for the Discovery Elementary boundary changes that will be voted on at the regular meeting on May 10th. Further research shows that trying to align the elementary schools to the high schools creates odd pockets or islands of students. If parents in the Red Rock or Rock River subdivisions opt to move their students to another nearby elementary school, the district would provide transportation as needed. Timelines for the high school boundary revisions and open enrollment guidelines will be discussed at the next work session on April 28th. Vlll. Call for Aqenda Items for Upcoming Meetinqs Chairman Bird called for items to add to future meeting agendas. Marjean McConnell asked for Board support for the high schools to hold three parent teacher conferences a year, one per trimester. At the high school level, each trimester class could have different students. She suggested Monday nights to avoid activity and sport conflicts. The Board will support this request to adjust the district calendar for the next school year. A. Work Session - Lincoln HS Student Council - Friday, April 28, 2017 - Lincoln HS -12:30 p.m. B. Work Session - Tuesday, May 23, 2017 - District Board Room - 2:30 p.m. IX. Adiournment Chairman Bird asked for a motion to adjourn at 12:58 p.m. MOTION: Amy Landers made the motion to adjourn. Chad Dance seconded. The vote was 5 in favor with 0 opposed and 0 abstentions. Motion was carried. APPROVED: � 6— ATTESTED: Chairman Clerk Date: —,M/% Discovery Elementary Proposed Boundary Changes As you know, Discovery Elementary has faced extreme overcrowding this year. Using the results of our recent survey, District leadership, school principals, and the School Board are developing plans to accommodate the growth. Proposed steps to address this growth are outlined below. *Evaluate open enrollments. -Make boundary changes where feasible. •Move neighborhoods west of Ammon Road and north of Iona Road to Ucon Elementary School (estimated 80 students). *Move neighborhoods north of the railroad tracks and east of the canal to Iona Elementary School (estimated 25 students), *Provide optional busing to other neighborhoods to encourage enrollment at other schools. •Red Rock / Rock River buses to Ucon Elementary School. *Lincoln Townsite buses to Cloverdale Elementary School. •Temoorary boundaryshanMs to enroll students at Iona, Summit Hills, and/or Cloverdale if an elementary is bonded for, *Move 6th grade to Rocky Mountain MS as a pilot program if a middle school is bonded for.
