CERTIFIED STAFF REEMPLOYMENT/NON-REEMPLOYMENT
In an effort to retain the most qualified certified staff in the District, the Bonneville Joint
School District No. 93 Board of Trustees authorizes the Superintendent/designee to offer
reemployment to certified staff or recommend non-reemployment pursuant to the
guidelines set forth.
Guidelines
Reemployment
Category 2 Contract Certified Staff
The Human Resources Department may issue a Category 2 Contract by June 1st to each
person recommended for reemployment in their second (2nd) year of continuous
employment with the District.
Category 3 Contract Certified Staff
1. The Human Resources Department may issue a Category 3 Contract by June 1st to
each person recommended for reemployment in their third (3rd) year of continuous
employment with the District.
2. The District shall have the option to place on a Category 3 Contract any certificated
employee who:
a. Worked in another Idaho school district and was eligible for Renewable Contract
status.
b. Worked in an out-of-state district and has four (4) or more years of experience.
3. Such employment on a Category 3 contract under the above provisions may be for
one (1), two (2), or three (3) years.
Renewable Contract Certified Staff
1. The Human Resources Department shall issue a Renewable Contract on or before
June 1st to each person recommended for reemployment in their fourth (4 th)
consecutive year with the District.
2. Renewable Contract certified staff shall have the right to automatic renewal of their
contract by giving notice in writing of acceptance of renewal.

3. Any contract automatically renewed shall be for the same length as the term stated in
the current contract and at a salary no lower than the previous year.
4. An employee’s failure to return a Renewable Contract within ten (10) calendar days
may be interpreted by the Board as a declination of the right to automatic renewal or
the offer of another contract.
Non-Reemployment
Category 1 Contract Certified Staff
Certified staff on a Category 1 Contract are specifically offered a contract for the limited
duration of the ensuing school year, and no further notice is required by the District to
terminate the contract at the conclusion of the contract year.
Category 2 Contract Certified Staff
Certified staff on a Category 2 Contract shall be provided a written statement of reasons
for non-reemployment no later than May 25th and are not entitled to a review of the
reasons or decision not to reemploy by the Board.
Category 3 Contract Certified Staff
1. Certified staff on a Category 3 Contract whose work is found to be unsatisfactory,
shall be notified in writing regarding the following probationary proceedings:
a. Period of probation will be for a minimum of eight (8) weeks;
b. Conditions of probation; and
c. Areas of work which are deficient.
2. Upon written request, a Category 3 certified employee, who is not reemployed, shall
be given the opportunity for an informal review of such decision by the Board (Policy
#5018 Informal Review)
Renewable Contract Certified Staff
1. Certified staff on a Renewable contract, whose work is found to be unsatisfactory,
shall be notified in writing regarding the following probationary proceedings:
a. Reasons for the probationary period;
b. Provisions for adequate supervision and evaluation of the employees’
performance; and

c. Period of probation will be at least eight (8) weeks
2. Such period of probation shall not affect the person’s renewable contract status.
DEFINITIONS:
Category 1 Certificated Employees: Certified staff hired on a limited one-year contract
after August 1st.
Category 2 Certificated Employees: Certified staff hired in the first and second years
of continuous employment within the same school district.
Category 3 Certificated Employees: Certified staff hired in the third year of continuous
employment by the same school district.
Certified Staff: includes all certificated staff except principals and District
administrators.
Probationary Period: The probationary period shall not be less than eight (8) weeks.
Renewable Contract Certificated Employees: Certificated staff completing their third
full year of continuous employment with the same school district and having been
evaluated for a renewable contract, shall, upon having been offered a contract for the
next ensuing year, giving notice of acceptance of renewal, and upon signing a contract
for the fourth full year, shall be placed on a renewable contract status.
Renewable Contract Certificated Employees shall have the right to automatic renewal of
contract by giving notice in writing of acceptance of renewal.
