TRUSTEE EXPENSES
No member of the Board of Trustees shall receive remuneration of any kind for services
as a Board Member, unless such expenses are incurred by the member for participation in business of the Board, State Department of Education, State Superintendent of Public
Instruction, or the Idaho School Boards Association. Board Members may become
members of the Idaho School Boards Association and/or the National School Boards
Association. Board Members will be expected to increase their expertise in school
affairs by attendance at, and participation in, the conventions of the above named associations to the extent possible.
Guidelines
Expenses for Board Members - In-District
Trustees shall be compensated for the following items: 1. Actual expenses incurred for travel to, from, and attending meetings of the Board as
provided herein. Reimbursement may be paid as the travel is assumed or may
accumulate until the end of the fiscal year, at the discretion of the Trustee.
2. Reimbursement may also be paid for membership fees of the Board of Trustees in the Idaho School Boards Association.
3. Subscription fees for required reading material, such as the “American School Board
Journal”. 4. Attorney fees and other expenses as may be determined to be required and
approved by law.
5. Miscellaneous expenses as may be determined to be required and approved by law. Board Meetings
Whenever any Trustee resides at such distance from the meeting place of the Board as
to require such member to incur extraordinary expense in traveling from the Trustee’s
home to and from the meeting place, the Board may approve payment to a Trustee of
the extraordinary expense incurred in attending any such meeting.
Expenses for Board Members at Out-of-District Meetings
1. Trustees normally attend workshops, training institutes, and conferences at both the

state and national level to increase their expertise in school affairs. It is appropriate
that trustee expenditures at these out-of-District meetings be paid by the District
from the general fund. It is the intent of the District to pay all legitimate costs for Trustees to attend out-of-District meetings, at the established rates for
reimbursement set by the District:
a. Transportation, as approved by the Board.
b. On-site transportation during the course of the meeting, i.e., bus, taxi, or rental
car.
c. Hotel or motel costs for trustee, as necessary.
d. Food costs, as necessary.
e. Telephone services shall be provided for necessary communications with
business or family, resulting from the trustee being away from Bonneville County.
f. Incidental expenditures for tips and other necessary costs attributable to the
trustee’s attendance at the meeting.
2. The District will not reimburse or pay for such items as liquor, expenses of a spouse,
separate entertainment, or other unnecessary expenditures.
