Bonneville Joint School District No. 93
INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES
The Board of Trustees of Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 believes that student
activities are a vital part of the total educational program, and should be used as a
means for developing wholesome attitudes, and good human relations, as well as
knowledge and skills. The Board of Trustees believes that school citizenship, as
reflected in student activities, is a measure of the achievement of important school goals. The Board of Trustees further recognizes that the greatest values to be derived
from both curricular and extra-curricular student school activities occur when such
activities are developed and encouraged through participation among, or the knowledge
of, the student body, interested members of the community, and school staff.
Guidelines
1. Although the District recognizes that there is value in offering programs of
interscholastic activities, such activities shall not be considered to be a property,
liberty, or contract right of any student; but rather are considered a privilege.
2. All facilities and equipment utilized in the interscholastic activity program, whether or
not the property of the District, shall be inspected on a regular basis. Participants
will be issued equipment that has been properly maintained and fitted.
3. An activity coach must be properly trained and qualified for an assignment as described in the coach's job description. A syllabus which outlines the skills,
techniques and safety measures associated with a coaching assignment will be
distributed to each coach.
4. All student participation shall be on a voluntary basis. The Board recognizes that certain risks are associated with participation in interscholastic activities.
a. While the District will strive to prevent injuries and accidents to students, each
parent or guardian will be required to sign an “assumption of risk” statement that
indicates that the parents assume all risks for injuries resulting from such participation.
b. Each participant shall be required to furnish evidence of physical fitness prior to
becoming a member of an interscholastic team.
c. A participant shall be free of injury and shall have fully recovered from illness
before participating in any event.
