RELATIONSHIP ABUSE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
PREVENTION AND RESPONSE
1. Purpose Statement
a. The Board endeavors to take steps to prevent and respond to known
instances of relationship abuse and sexual assault.
b. This policy is intended to prohibit relationship abuse and sexual assault by
students or third parties on District premises, at District-sponsored activities,
and in other circumstances where the conduct impacts a District-related
activity.
2. Definitions
a. “Relationship abuse” includes the intentional use of physical, sexual, verbal,
or emotional abuse or violence by a person to harm, threaten, intimidate, or
control another person in a current or past dating relationship.
b. “Sexual assault” includes sexual violence, sexual abuse, sexual stalking, and
rape.
c. “District premises or District-sponsored activity” includes, but is not limited to,
buildings, facilities, and grounds on District campuses; school buses; District
parking areas; and the location of any District-sponsored activity.
3. Scope
a. This policy applies on District premises, at any District-sponsored activity
regardless of location, and off District premises when the conduct impacts a
District-related activity.
4. Discipline, Sanctions, and Referrals to Law Enforcement
a. Students
i. Relationship abuse and sexual assault by students are prohibited and
shall be addressed through applicable District policy, the Student Code of
Conduct, and law enforcement referral when appropriate.
ii. Students whose behavior is found to be in violation of this policy will be
subject to discipline, up to and including expulsion.

b. Third Parties
i. Relationship abuse and sexual assault by third parties are prohibited on
District premises and at District-sponsored activities.
ii. Third parties whose behavior is found to be in violation of this policy shall
be subject to appropriate sanctions as determined and imposed by the
Superintendent, designee, or Board of Trustees, including removal from
District premises or activities, restriction from future access to District
property or events, termination of volunteer or contractual privileges,
referral to law enforcement, or other appropriate action.
iii. When conduct by a third party occurs off District premises but impacts a
District-related activity or student safety at school, the District may take
reasonable steps within its authority to protect students, maintain order,
support affected students, and will report incidents to law enforcement or
other appropriate agencies.
5. Reporting and Response
a. When reported conduct may constitute sexual harassment, discrimination, or
retaliation under Policy 3085 or Procedure 3085P, the District shall follow the
applicable requirements of that policy and procedure. District personnel shall
report incidents that may fall under Policy 3085 or Procedure 3085P to the
District’s Title IX Coordinator or other designated official as provided in Policy
3085.
b. When District personnel, in the course of their employment, receive
information or observe circumstances that give them reason to believe a child
under eighteen (18) years of age has been abused, abandoned, or neglected,
or has been subjected to conditions that would reasonably result in abuse,
abandonment, or neglect, the employee shall immediately report or cause a
report to be made as required by the Child Protective Act and District policy.
c. The reporting obligation in subsection 5(b) applies regardless of whether the
matter is also addressed under this policy, Policy 3085, Policy 3330, the
Student Code of Conduct, or any other District policy or procedure.
6. Administrative Implementation
a. The Superintendent or designee shall implement this policy through
applicable District policies, administrative procedures, and the Student Code
of Conduct.

7. Notice and Prevention
a. The District shall take reasonable steps to provide students with age -
appropriate information regarding relationship abuse and sexual assault
prevention and response.
b. Notice of this policy shall be provided to students in a manner determined by
the Superintendent or designee, which may include the Student Code of
Conduct, student handbooks, school-based instruction, or other appropriate
District communication.
