Prior to registering in high school, each student will be provided with a copy of the current graduation requirements. 2. Graduation requirements shall also be included in the student handbook. 3. High School Course Description Handbooks will be made available in the counselors’ offices as well as online. Credit Requirements 1. Students graduating from a comprehensive high school must earn 60 credits according to the graduation requirements table to earn a comprehensive high school diploma. 2. Students who do not meet the comprehensive graduation requirements but still meet the minimum requirements established by the State Board of Education for graduation from high school may submit a written request to the school principal and superintendent/designee to be awarded a basic high school diploma. 3. Graduation requirements for special education students may be altered according to their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Graduation Requirements Content Area Credits English Language Arts 11 Math 7 Science 6 Social Studies 9 Humanities 2 Technology and Engineering Digital Literacy (Beginning with the class of 2028) 1 Health 1 Physical Education 2 Senior Project Future Readiness Project (Beginning with the class of 2028) 1 Electives 20 Total 60 INSTRUCTION 2700P1 Page 2 of 4 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Comprehensive High School Graduation Requirements Procedures Core Instruction Required for Students Attending a Comprehensive High School. 1 Core Area Total Required Credits English Language Arts and Communication 11 credits English (language study, composition, literature) 10 credits Speech or Debate 1 credit 2 Mathematics 7 credits *Algebra 1 or courses that meet the Idaho Algebra 1 content standards 3 credits *Geometry or courses that meet the Idaho Geometry Content Standards 2 credits *Mathematics of the student’s choice 2 credits 3 Science 6 credits Physical Science 2 credits Biology 2 credits Science course of student’s choice 2 credits Core Area (continued) Total Required Credits 4 Social Studies 9 credits Government 2 credits U.S. History 4 credits Economics & Financial Literacy 1 credit World History 2 credits 5 Humanities 2 credits Interdisciplinary humanities, visual and performing arts, foreign language, literature, history, philosophy, architecture, or comparative world religions may satisfy the standards if the course is aligned to the Idaho Interdisciplinary Humanities Content Standards. 6 Technology and Engineering Digital Literacy (Beginning with the class of 2028) 1 credit The course will focus on fundamental computer science concepts such as algorithms, coding, Artificial Intelligence (AI), basics of Cyber Security, internet safety and social media best INSTRUCTION 2700P1 Page 3 of 4 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Comprehensive High School Graduation Requirements Procedures practices, and citizenship in the digital world, including communication through digital means, such as online news and information. 7 Core Area (continued) Total Required Credits Health/Wellness 1 credit All public school students who enter grade nine (9) in Fall 2015 or later, shall receive a minimum of one (1) class period on psychomotor cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training as outlined in the American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for CPR to include the proper utilization of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) as part of the Health/Wellness course 8 Physical Education 2 credits Students participating in one of the following activities may choose to substitute such participation for up to one (1) credit of physical education. ● One (1) season in any sport recognized by the Idaho High School Activities Association; or ● Club sport recognized by the District; or ● Eighteen (18) weeks of a sport recognized by the District. 9 Senior Project Future Readiness Project (Beginning with the class of 2028) 1 credit Total 40 credits Senior Project The senior project is a culminating project to show a student’s ability to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and communicate that knowledge and understanding. A student must complete a senior project by the end of grade twelve (12). The project must include elements of research, development of a thesis using experiential learning or integrated project-based learning experiences and presentation of the project outcome. It is expected that students will spend a minimum of 15 hours in co mpleting the learning experience. Future Readiness Project (Beginning with the class of 2028) The future readiness project beginning with the class of 2028 will take the place of the Senior Project requirement. The Future Readiness Project is an individualized student project that must include an experiential component, such as a work-based, service- based, research-based, or portfolio-based experience in which a student demonstrates the INSTRUCTION 2700P1 Page 4 of 4 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Comprehensive High School Graduation Requirements Procedures acquisition of the State Board of Education adopted Idaho College and Career Competencies. Experiences like apprenticeships, internships, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities related to real-world skills acquisition will count toward this requirement. Testing Requirements 1. All students graduating from any Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 high school must be proficient in the state civics and government content standards either through the completion of the civics test or an alternate path and it shall be noted on the student’s high school transcript. a. Students will be given multiple opportunities to meet this standard. Students are expected to take the test until they earn a passing score. b. Students who are not able to earn a passing score on this assessment will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the state civics and government standards in an alternate manner. c. A teacher assigned to teach U.S. History, Government, or Economics may certify that the student has met this requirement through an alternate method. Waiver of Requirement 1. All state graduation requirements shall be met. 2. Only in rare and unique hardship circumstances, may the Principal recommend minor deviation from the District’s graduation requirements to the Superintendent of Schools for approval. High School Credit Earned in Middle School Students who complete high school courses in seventh (7 th) or eighth (8th) grade will be given high school credit pursuant to Idaho Administrative Code 08.02.03.105.06.
