Prior to registering in high school, each student will be provided with a copy of the current graduation requirements. 2. Graduation requirements shall also be included in the student handbook. 3. High School Course Description Handbooks will be made available in the counselors’ offices as well as online. Credit Requirements for Lincoln High School and Bonneville Online Academy 1. Students graduating from a specialty/alternative high school must earn, at a minimum, 46 credits as required by State Board Rule in order to complete graduation requirements. Each specialty/alternative high school may require additional credits for graduation. 2. Of the total 46 credits, 30 credits must be taken from core-class requirements. 3. Graduation requirements for special education may be altered according to their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Core-Area Instruction Required for Students Attending an Alternative School (Lincoln and Bonneville Online Academy) 1 Core Area Total Required Credits English Language Arts and Communication 9 credits English (language study, composition, literature 8 credits Speech or Debate 1 credit 2 Mathematics 6 credits Algebra I or courses that meet the Idaho Algebra I content standards 2 credits Geometry or courses that meet the Idaho Geometry Content Standards 2 credits Mathematics of the student’s choice 2 credits INSTRUCTION 2700P2 Page 2 of 6 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Alternative/ Specialty High School Graduation Requirements 3 Core Area (continued Total Required Credits Science 6 credits Physical Science 2 credits Biology 2 credits Science course of student’s choice 2 credits 4 Social Studies 5 credits Government 2 credits U.S. History 2 credits Economics & Financial Literacy 1 credit 5 Humanities 2 credits Interdisciplinary humanities, visual and performing arts, foreign language, literature, history, philosophy, architecture, or comparative world religions may satisfy the standards if the course is aligned to the Idaho Interdisciplinary Humanities Content Standards. 6 Digital Literacy 1 credit The course will focus on fundamental computer science concepts such as algorithms, coding, Artificial Intelligence (AI), basics of Cyber Security, internet safety and social media best practices, and citizenship in the digital world, including communication through digital means, such as online news and information. 7 Health/Wellness 1 credit All public school students who enter grade nine (9) in Fall 2015 or later, shall receive a minimum of one (1) class period on psychomotor cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training as outlined in the American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for CPR to include the proper utilization of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) as part of the Health/Wellness course Total 30 credits INSTRUCTION 2700P2 Page 3 of 6 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Alternative/ Specialty High School Graduation Requirements Credit Requirements for Bonneville Online High School 1. Students graduating from a specialty/alternative high school must earn, at a minimum, 46 credits as required by State Board Rule in order to complete graduation requirements. The Future Readiness Project is an individualized student project that must include an experiential component, such as a work-based, service-based, research-based, or portfolio-based experience in which a student demonstrates the acquisition of the State Board of Education adopted Idaho College and Career Competencies. Experiences like apprenticeships, internships, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities related to real-world skills acquisition will count toward this requirement Total 36 credits INSTRUCTION 2700P2 Page 5 of 6 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Alternative/ Specialty High School Graduation Requirements Technical Careers High School (TCHS) Additional Requirements Students graduating from TCHS will be required to meet the following credit requirements for each graduating class Content Area Credits English Language Arts 11 Math 7 Science 6 Social Studies 7 Humanities 2 Technology and Engineering Digital Literacy (Beginning with the class of 2028) 1 Health 1 Senior Project Future Readiness Project (Beginning with the class of 2028) 1 Electives 18 Total 54 Senior Project A student shall complete a senior project that includes a research paper and oral presentation by the end of grade twelve (12) if required by the State Board of Education. Future Readiness Project (Beginning with the class of 2028) The future readiness project beginning with the class of 2028 will take the place of the Senior Project requirement. The Future Readiness Project is an individualized student project that must include an experiential component, such as a work-based, service- based, research-based, or portfolio-based experience in which a student demonstrates the acquisition of the State Board of Education adopted Idaho College and Career Competencies. INSTRUCTION 2700P2 Page 6 of 6 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Alternative/ Specialty High School Graduation Requirements Testing Requirements Civics Test 1. All students graduating from any Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 High School must be proficient in the state civics and government content standards either through the completion of the civics test or an alternate path and it shall be noted on the student’s high school transcript. a. Students will be given multiple opportunities to meet this standard. Students are expected to take the test until they earn a passing score. b. Students who are not able to earn a passing score on this assessment will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the state civics and government standards in an alternate manner. c. A teacher assigned to teach U.S. History, Government, or Economics may certify that the student has met this requirement through an alternate method. Waiver of Requirement 1. All state graduation requirements shall be met. 2. Only in rare and unique hardship circumstances, may the Principal recommend minor deviation from the District’s graduation requirements to the Superintendent of Schools for approval. High School Credit Earned in Middle School Students who complete high school courses in 7th or 8th grade will be given high school credit pursuant to Idaho Administrative Code 08.02.03, Section 105.05.
