BUS DRIVER RESPONSIBILITIES
It is the duty of transportation employees to be informed and adhere to transportation
rules and policies, rules of the State Board of Education, policies of the District Board
of Trustees, and the laws of the State of Idaho. School bus drivers shall be adequately
prepared, both physically and mentally, each day to perform required duties.
Guidelines
Drivers are required to continue their education through inservice training and
annual evaluations (see Bus Driver Training #8140 and Bus Driver Training
Procedures #8140P).
2. Drivers must be aware of the liabilities of vehicle operation and student
management.
3. The school bus driver has responsibility for the operation of his /her bus and care of
passengers.
4. The driver must make every effort to work within District policies. However, the
driver shall always possess the final authority when unusual situations require
immediate decisions.
5. It shall be the duty of every school bus driver to report, to his /her immediate
supervisor, the license number of any vehicle that violates any law endangering
school children (see policy #8185 Bus Warning Violations and #8185F Bus Driver
Report on School Bus Passing Violation).
6. The bus driver shall conduct and document emergency evacuation drills (see policy
#8250 Student Training, Student Training Procedures #8250, Emergencies and
Accidents #8182, and School Bus Evacuation Procedures #8182P2).
7. The driver shall ensure the safe condition of the school bus by conducting thorough
pre -trip and post -trip school bus inspections (see policy #8195 Inspection of School
Buses and Pre- and Post -Trip Inspection Procedures #8195P).
8. All school bus defects shall be reported to the Transportation Manager /designee
(see policy #8195 Inspection of School Buses).

Bus Driver Responsibilities
