MEMORIALS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
1. Permanent Memorials
a. The Board of Trustees recognizes that the death of a student or member of the staff
is deeply felt by students, staff members, and families of the District. As places
designed primarily to support learning, school property should not serve as the main
venue for permanent memorials for students or staff.
b. Permanent memorials or memorial displays may not be constructed, planted,
placed, or installed on school property unless express permission has been granted
by the Board of Trustees.
i. Out of respect for the wishes of the family, such requests should be made by a
member of the immediate family of the deceased.
c. Permanent memorials for deceased students or staff shall be limited in form to
perpetual awards or scholarships or small plaques placed in an appropriate location
recognizing staff members who pass away while serving at that school.
2. Temporary Memorials
a. In keeping the Idaho Department of Education on Response Guidelines for Suicide
and Sudden Death, memorials for any student death, regardless of manner, will be
treated according to the provisions in Board Policy 3530 Suicide Prevention,
Intervention, and Postvention.
