Work Session October 23, 2019 11:30 AM District Board Room, 3497 N Ammon Rd, Idaho falls, ID I. Call to Order Chairman Paul Jenkins called the meeting to order at 11:39 a.m. II. Welcome Visitors and Delegations Others in attendance were Superintendent Dr. Scott Woolstenhulme, Chief Financial/Operations Officer Guy Wangsgard, Executive Director of Instruction & Learning Jason Lords, Executive Director of Planning & Personnel Heath Jackson, Director of Safe Schools & Technology Gordon Howard, Community Relations and Communications Phil Campbell, D93News Samantha Williams, Renee Cook, and Board Clerk Mary Hansen. IV. Items for Discussion A. Revised 2020-2021 District Calendar – Dr. Woolstenhulme Chairman Jenkins invited Dr. Woolstenhulme to present revisions to the 2020-2021 District Calendar. After review of the current 2020-2021 calendar, the proposed changes will include different registration dates (a series of three consecutive days for all elementary, middle and high schools), three PLC collaboration days, and the same pattern as previous years by starting school one week before Labor Day and ending the week after Memorial Day. It was discussed to send out a survey for patron/community input. B. Community Engagement Plan - Dr. Woolstenhulme Chairman Jenkins invited Dr. Woolstenhulme to present Community Engagement Plan. Dr. Woolstenhulme stated a proposal had come from Patron Insights, Inc. laying out a plan for the District to improve community engagement and to rebuild trust between the district and the community. This proposal targets key strategies, including a review of outbound communications; on-site interviews to define “What the district believes it is saying”; telephone interviews with key opinion leaders in the community; and evaluation of findings. Goals include rebuilding trust with the community and improving relationship with patrons. Implementation can be difficult with limitation of resources and best to prioritize for desired outcomes. C. 2020 ISBA Resolutions Review - Dr. Woolstenhulme Chairman Jenkins invited Dr. Woolstenhulme to open discussion on the ISBA Resolutions. Dr. Woolstenhulme explained that these resolutions are presented at the ISBA Annual Convention in November and lobbied by the ISBA Executive Board in the legislative session in early 2020. The board reviewed each resolution to understand their possible outcomes. V. Call for Agenda Items for Upcoming Meetings Every year prior to the ISBA convention, the resolutions will be reviewed at a work session. Grading policy will be discussed in the November work session A. ISBA Annual Convention - November 6-8, 2019 - Coeur d'Alene, ID B. G. Christmas Winter Break - December 23, 2019 - January 3, 2020 - No School VI. Adjournment Chairman Jenkins adjourned the meeting at 12:59 p.m. MOTION: Amy Landers moved to adjourn.
