Our goals this year are to get to know everyone and have them feel welcome, comfortable sharing problems and seeking answers, to have fun and to support each other. Second, is to let the teachers and students know we are here for them and to be of help as necessary. Third, displaying leadership by meeting with other schools, such as Burley High School, rummage sale, and having school spirit. We are encouraging the Freshmen to be involved at the games and joining the group in the student section. Austin Ford Sophomore Class President — The main goal of the Sophomore class is to have more school spirit and to get to know students in our class better. We had a successful Bee Campaign this year, We have organized an anti -bulling campaign which includes a banner against bullying for students to sign, encourage students to speak up against bullying, anti -bullying bracelets to wear, influential students, and reminding students on the morning announcements. We hope to start this campaign as soon as possible. We really feel it will make a difference at Bonneville High School — it's positive for everyone. Hardy Lopez Junior Class President — Junior class goals this year are to encourage everyone one to get on board with school spirit and help make a new culture. "Be the student you want your student council to be," Be on the front row seats in all school events. If everyone Board of Trustees Brian McBride Paul Jenkins Amy Landers e- Jeff Bird Greg Calder brought just one friend to one event, increases the chances for more people to meet and get to know each other and unite as one. It's important to stay on task; currently we have planning homecoming events. All the events throughout the year lead up to Prom in the spring. Bring the change to Bonneville High School! Klanna Barrett, Senior Class President — The Senior class theme for the year is Light. We are the light of the world; light can have an impact on the Senior class and on the world. Apparel is available with our theme. The Senior class goals are to encourage all Seniors to be part of something. We are organizing more Senior class activities. So far this year we have Senior Sunrise on the first day of school including breakfast. We have had our Senior panoramic photo taken, and looking forward to homecoming hall and float decoration. We will paint a Senior class rock with our handprints and create our Senior banner. The Senior all-nighter is planned at the Apple Athletic Club for May 318t, after graduation. Senior Sob will include photographs collected throughout the year and to be shown in a big slide show. New programs Sam! Trane, StuCo Peps President — the Peps hold a monthly meeting to involve more students; homecoming and regional conferences help improve leadership skills. We encourage the Peps to get to know the Foreign Exchange students by providing rides to the school events and to be friends. In June we will be organizing a baseball game with two teams with the special needs students. Nate Andrus, Student Body Vice President and Austin Sorensen, Swarm president — Recently the boys had attended a national conference where they met the Georgia Brave Hearts, six to eight senior boys who have a great influence on their school. Bonneville's group is called "The Swarm." Their main goal is to unite the school, create unity by supporting events, increase participation and overall school spirit, and make each student feel like they are valued. Steps thru success — being an example to freshman, support Bonneville's sport teams no matter what the score is and using social media to their advantage. They want to reach out to as many people as possible. The Swarm's goals are to unite the school — to Bee One - one event at a time and challenge everyone to do the best they can and put more focus on less recognized events. Whitney Johnson Student Body President - Whitney expressed appreciation to all those who came today to see what we are doing at Bonneville High School. We are eager to serve the community and staff. Our summer Student Council Retreat, helped bond us together as a group and we were able to discuss our plans for our school and to discuss ways to face our problems. Our theme this year is from Dr. Seuss' book The Lorax - "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Our 4th of July parade float, celebrating 150 years for Idaho Falls, won the best school prize in the parade floats! We met with Burley High School at a Leadership Conference. Student council helped with registration again this year. For our 2,d annual Bee Pride Day we weeded flower beds and painted picnic tables. We held a Rummage sale as a community event. To increase school spirit, we realized we needed more Bonneville High School apparel, to get everyone in green and gold. We reached out to the students by calling and inviting them to the games. Thirty kids came to the Civil War soccer game. The Swarm is a huge help with increasing school spirit. Homecoming events include Dress up days, lunch duties, Powder Puff game to be held Tuesday, September 22 and maybe even a flash mob! We are designing a Unity Wall, a visual representation of a honeycomb with personalized hexagons for each student and staff member, School Board and Administration. Communication with other clubs is important and to help promote their activities and events, too. We want all the student body to know we care and support Bonneville High School. Chairman McBride stated the Board also has a retreat where they set new goals for the new school year - Student Performance, achieving potential, feeling valued, using technology, improving our school's environment, long term growth, ensuring safety for staff, students and school, patron involvement building mutual respect and trust, strengthening unity, to unify as a Board and as a community. The Board appreciates you and your efforts. Mrs. Krista Bumgardner Student Council Advisor— Bonneville High School has many wonderful students! Our Student Council is rated #1 in Idaho and has received top national recognition. These students give many presentations at both regional and state conferences in Idaho; their portfolios are great. Each student puts in hours of work to make Bonneville High School a better place. Thanks for all your help and support! Questions from the students — ® What is the plan if the bond doesn't pass? The Board feels we have the right solution and the right time. If it doesn't pass in November, we will ask again. Students over the age of 18 were encouraged to cast their vote on November 3, 2015. ® How long will it take to build the school and what do we do in the time being? To build our new high school is a three year process. The District is looking at a proposed Trimester, 6 period class schedule, starting next school year (2016-2017). Proposed split sessions will be for school years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. The first session will start near 7:OOam and the second session will end near 5:00pm. Students will be encouraged to pursue online class options. The two split sessions will overlap during the middle of the day allowing students to connect with friends and/or share classes. If the bond does not pass, split sessions will continue. There will also be possible boundary changes. Class scheduling and extra -curricular activities will be scheduled by the secondary schools administration. Other area school districts already have the trimester schedule in place. ® Why are there two districts, District 91 and District 93? A recent ISU study determined the cost effectiveness of combining our two districts into one would cost approximately $2M more per year to run one 21,000 student school district verses how we independently run our two districts currently. • Can Fast Tract Juniors ready to graduate, walk with the Seniors at graduation? Mr, Jackson said that if the juniors are graduating to go to college, yes, they can walk at graduation; however, if they are planning on returning to work on dual credit classes, they will not be permitted to walk. • Why are there classroom trailers at our Elementary schools? Our first bond was to cover the growth at all schools in the District, including additions to our existing elementary schools and a new school buildings for elementary, middle and high school students. Our needs have not changed, but the voters said no. Currently, we are concerned about our most pressing needs, a new high school to relieve the overcrowding issues. Our 15 year plan will address the elementary and middle school growth by planning additions to replace the trailers, The trend is to build bigger schools. Voter concern is the money needed to build additions and new buildings. • My teachers tell me that they do not have money for room supplies. Mr. Jackson explained that current teachers order their supplies in the spring for fall classes and new teachers order in the fall when classes start. • Why are we one of two states that require a 213 super majority to pass a bond and how can that be changed? The super majority is stated in our state's Constitution and would require legislative action to change. Mr, Pymm expressed his admiration to the students for their efforts to combat bullying, Studies show that a school who does anything against bullying decreases the incidences 25 percent. It's a great effort; it's the first right step and we urge you to move forward with greater steps. Whitney Johnson Student Body President asked everyone to group together for a selfie, V. Items for Discussion A. Yes Camoaiqn Report - Kristi Cariquist Chairman McBride welcomed Kristi Carlquist of the Yes Campaign to report as to what is going on and what we can do as a School Board to provide information to the community. The School Board is not part of this committee, Mrs. Cariquist stated that as we listened to these students today, we have had the affirmation of what we are doing is right, We support the School Board in their decision to move forward with this new bond proposal. We are working hard building a community, putting kids first, and concerned for their safety. The longer we wait, the more it hurts; if it doesn't pass, we run again and we place more classroom trailers at our schools. The Yes Campaign will relay to the community the information about this bond. We understand the consequences, student safety and student education. We will choose neutral locations for our community meetings. They are yet to be scheduled. Chairman McBride stated that at each community meeting there needs to be no more than two Board members present. Cottage meetings can be organized as well as public Q&A meetings with the Board. Bond presentations will be given in all the schools by a District Leadership Team member and a Board member. The Board appreciates your willingness and talent in helping to educate the public and patrons. It is the Boards judicially responsibility to support the decisions of the Board, provide information, but not be persuasive. It is important to stay civil, whether pro or con, in our meetings and on social media. Mrs. Cariquist concludes by saying their committee will focus on the community — we are still neighbors and we still live together. We are going to run the Yes Campaign no matter the opposition. Our focus will be the students, not the yeses and the nos. Mr. Woostenhulme expressed his appreciation to Community Relations and Communications Phil Campbell for all his dedicated work with the District's Facebook page. B. Bond Communication Plan Chairman McBride asked Scott Woolstenhulme to discuss the Bond Communication Plans as it related to updating the bond website htto://www.d93bond,com, • How do we want to address the design for the new high school? The website needs to address the design plan for the new high school, The District is not building the Middleton school; however, Middleton was designed and researched by educators and is a starting point - flow of kids, classroom use, hallways, etc. We are not building the Middleton plan, but a school with Middleton ideas, The design of our high school will be our own design and will change when the auditorium and athletic stadium is voted in. • Do we want to have design renderings or pictures on the website? It is misleading to show a design that we really do not have in place yet. • Post the 15 year long-term plan? We should post it only as a projection; it is important to be transparent, We anticipate re- evaluating the 15 year term plan annually, • Do we need to revisit the site plan for the new high school? No, this site does not need to be revisited. Mr, Woolstenhulme asked the Board members to help create one minute video clips answering common bond questions from patron emails. Mr, Campbell will contact them to take the videos, Board Clerk Mary Mortenson will contact each school to create a schedule for the District Leadership Team liaison and a Board member to meet with each school's faculty and staff to present bond information and for Q&A, It would also be beneficial to meet with the transportation, custodial, and food service departments. VI. Board Trainina The District PLC trainings will be held at the Shilo Inn for Elementary schools on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from 8:15a,m.-3:30p.m. and for Secondary schools on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 8:15a.m.-3:30p.m. Board Goals — Chairman McBride asked all Board members to bring three goals for the Board to discuss to the next work session.
