HomeMy WebLinkAbout5720 Volunteer AssistancePERSONNEL 5720 Page 1 of 2 Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 recognizes the valuable contributions made to the total school program through the volunteer assistance of parents and other citizens. Therefore, the Board supports and encourages volunteers in our schools. The superintendent/designee shall develop and implement procedures for the utilization of volunteers and for the facilitation of effective communication with persons who volunteer. Guidelines 1. Volunteers work in cooperation with schools to help meet the needs of students and school staff. 2. The final decision to accept or reject a volunteer applicant rests with the building principal. 3. An appropriate degree of training and/or supervision of each volunteer shall be administered commensurate with the responsibility undertaken. a. District employees who work with volunteers shall clearly explain the volunteer’s responsibility in school, on the playground, and on field trips. b. On field trips, volunteers shall be informed of the rules of student behavior and the means by which students shall be held accountable to those rules. 4. Volunteers who have unsupervised access to children shall be subject to the District’s Criminal History - Background Checks policy #5020. DEFINITION: Volunteer: is a person who assists in school or District programs and is an individual who: • Performs hours of service to the District for civic, charitable or humanitarian reasons, without promise, expectation or receipt of compensation for services rendered; • May be paid expenses, reasonable benefits, or a nominal fee to perform such services; • Offers services freely and without pressure or coercion, direct or implied, from an employer; and • Is not otherwise employed by the District to perform the same type of services as those for which the individual proposes to volunteer.
