HomeMy WebLinkAbout3350 Student DetentionSTUDENTS STUDENT DETENTION 3350 Page 1 of 2 For minor infractions of school rules or regulations, or for minor misconduct, staff may detain students in school, before school, or after school. Students may be required to attend Saturday school for up to four (4) hours. Guidelines Preceding the assessment of detention, the staff member shall inform the student of the nature of the offense charged, and /or the specific conduct that allegedly constitutes the violation. 2. The student shall be afforded an opportunity to explain or justify his /her actions to the staff member. 3. Parents must be notified prior to a student serving an after - school or before - school detention. 4. Students detained for corrective action or punishment shall be under the supervision of the staff member /designee. Saturday School 1. Saturday School can be required by a principal /designee as a disciplinary measure. a. Parents /guardians and the student will be informed of the date and time at least two (2) school days in advance. b. A student will be required to attend school on Saturday, during particular hours, and will be required to work on assignments. 2. If a student is required to attend Saturday school and fails to do so he /she may: a. be suspended by the principal /designee, or b. lose class credit. DEFINITIONS After - School Detention: Assignment to a designated room on campus at the end of the regular school day for a specified period of time. Parents must arrange for the student's transportation home. Before - School Detention: Assignments to a designated room on campus for a specified period of time before school. Parents must arrange for the student's transportation to school Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 STUDENTS 3350 Page 2 of 2 In- School Detention: one in which the student remains in school, isolated from peers. The student is considered present in school for attendance purposes. Make -up work is allowed. Saturday School: detention where a student is required to attend school on Saturday, during particular hours, and will be required to work on school assignments. Parents must arrange for the student's transportation.
