STUDENTS <br />STUDENT DETENTION <br />3350 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />For minor infractions of school rules or regulations, or for minor misconduct, staff may <br />detain students in school, before school, or after school. Students may be required to <br />attend Saturday school for up to four (4) hours. <br />Guidelines <br />Preceding the assessment of detention, the staff member shall inform the student of <br />the nature of the offense charged, and /or the specific conduct that allegedly <br />constitutes the violation. <br />2. The student shall be afforded an opportunity to explain or justify his /her actions to <br />the staff member. <br />3. Parents must be notified prior to a student serving an after - school or before - school <br />detention. <br />4. Students detained for corrective action or punishment shall be under the supervision <br />of the staff member /designee. <br />Saturday School <br />1. Saturday School can be required by a principal /designee as a disciplinary measure. <br />a. Parents /guardians and the student will be informed of the date and time at least <br />two (2) school days in advance. <br />b. A student will be required to attend school on Saturday, during particular hours, <br />and will be required to work on assignments. <br />2. If a student is required to attend Saturday school and fails to do so he /she may: <br />a. be suspended by the principal /designee, or <br />b. lose class credit. <br />DEFINITIONS <br />After - School Detention: Assignment to a designated room on campus at the end of <br />the regular school day for a specified period of time. Parents must arrange for the <br />student's transportation home. <br />Before - School Detention: Assignments to a designated room on campus for a <br />specified period of time before school.
