STUDENTS
3385

Bonneville Joint School District No. 93

EXTRACURRICULAR ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION

The Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Board of Trustees believes individual
students will benefit through opportunities to grow physically and intellectually through
experiences in self-discipline and contribution to team efforts made possible through
competitive extracurricular team and individual sport activities.

Secondary students will be provided extracurricular athletic competition in a variety of
sports. Students shall be allowed to participate in individual sports on the basis of
physical condition and desire. Qualified personnel shall be provided for coaching and
supervising individual sports.

Guidelines

1. District participation in extracurricular athletics shall be subject to approval of the
Board of Trustees including approval of:

a. membership in any league, association or conferences,

b. rules for participation, and

c. annual sport schedules.

2. Extracurricular athletics supplement the regular instructional programs and afford
students opportunities for enrichment.

a. Participation in such activities is a privilege, not a right.

b. As representatives of their school and District, students participating in such
activities are expected to meet high standards of behavior.

c. The purpose of secondary athletics is both educational and recreational.

d. The extracurricular athletic program should encourage participation by as many
students as possible, and should be conducted with the best interest of the
participants as the first consideration.

e. This should be done without unreasonable interference with other obligations in
the school community.

f. It is recognized that a well-organized and well-conducted athletic program is a
potent factor in the morale of the secondary student body, and an important
phase of good community school relations.
