PERSONNEL <br />5020 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br />Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 <br /> <br />CRIMINAL HISTORY – BACKGROUND CHECKS <br /> <br />It is the policy of Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 to perform Criminal History <br />Checks pursuant to Idaho Code section 33-130 and to perform other types of <br />background checks on employees, volunteers, or contractors including, but not limited <br />to: <br /> <br />1. Contacting prior employers for references and past performance <br />records; <br />2. Contacting personal references; <br />3. Contacting other persons who, in the discretion of the District, could <br />provide valuable information to the District; and/or <br />4. Searching the Idaho State Police Sex Offender Registry. <br /> <br />The Board of Trustees will not employ any applicant or continue the employment of any <br />employee who is deemed unsuited for service by reason of arrest and/or conviction of a <br />felony offense pursuant to Idaho Code section 33-1208(2). <br /> <br />Guidelines <br /> <br />Requirement for Criminal History Checks <br /> <br />1. In order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of students in the District, the <br />following individuals will be required to submit to Criminal History Checks. The list <br />includes, but is not limited to: <br /> <br />a. Certificated and non-certificated employees; <br />b. All applicants for certificates: <br />c. Substitute teachers; <br />d. Individuals involved in student training such as student teachers, internships, and <br />practicums; <br />e. Volunteers who have unsupervised contact with students; <br />f. Private Service providers and consultants; and <br />g. Any other individuals who may have unsupervised contact with students. <br /> <br />2. Criminal History Checks shall be submitted prior to starting employment. <br /> <br />3. The District may require any of its employees to be subjected to Criminal History <br />Checks. <br /> <br />4. Additional Criminal History Checks shall be required whenever there is a “break in <br />service”, however short (Idaho Department of Education, Back -ground Investigation <br />Check Handbook). <br /> <br /> <br />
