PERSONNEL <br />EMPLOYEE OR PUBLIC USE OF WEAPONS <br />5247 <br />(also 4340) <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />The Bonneville School District No. 93 Board of Trustees has no tolerance for individuals <br />who use, threaten to use, possess, or bring a firearm, destructive device, weapon, <br />dangerous instrument, explosive, or look -alike weapon on any school premises, or at <br />any school sponsored activity, regardless of location, or store them in their personal <br />vehicle on school campuses or for individuals who assist others in doing any of the <br />above. <br />Guidelines <br />1. The Board delegates authority to the Superintendent, principal /designee to <br />determine when exceptions will be made and permission will be given for an <br />individual or a group to bring any of the weapons listed above to school. <br />2. Such permission will be based on a determination by the Superintendent, principal, <br />or designee that the circumstances do not constitute a threat and /or disruption to the <br />health, safety, and /or educational process of other individuals, and adequate <br />safeguards are in place. <br />Discipline <br />1. Discipline for violation of this policy may involve actions up to and including <br />dismissal of an employee. <br />2. Violation of this policy by a visitor may involve actions up to and including future <br />prohibition from entering any school premises or attending any school sponsored <br />activity, regardless of location. <br />3. The Su perintendent/designee shall submit the case to the appropriate law <br />enforcement agency when the circumstances warrant such action. <br />DEFINITIONS <br />Dangerous Instrument: anything that, although not specifically designed to hurt <br />someone, is used to cause injury or to put someone in fear. Examples include belts, <br />combs, writing utensils, compasses, chains, etc. Such items should be considered <br />dangerous instruments when they are used to cause injury or to put someone in fear. <br />Destructive Device: <br />1. any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas: a) bomb, b)grenade, c)rocket having a <br />propellant charge of more than four ounces, d)missile having an explosive or <br />incendiary charge of more than one - quarter ounce, e)mine, f)device similar to any of <br />the devices described in the preceding clauses. <br />Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 <br />
