NON - INSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS <br />8140 <br />(also 5879) <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TRAINING <br />All new school bus drivers shall complete an approved school bus driver training <br />program including ten (10) hours of behind - the -wheel and /or route observation, before <br />being allowed to drive a District school bus loaded with students. <br />All current bus drivers shall receive a minimum of ten (10) hours of annual approved <br />refresher school bus driver training and classroom instruction. <br />Guidelines <br />Documentation <br />1. All school bus training hours and topics shall be documented and maintained in the <br />bus driver's personnel file. <br />2. Documentation of all previous school bus driver training and driving experience, in <br />accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration CDL licensing <br />requirements shall be requested. <br />Annual Pre - service and In- service Training <br />1. At least three (3) hours of pre - service refresher training shall be provided to all <br />District school bus drivers before school begins in the fall. <br />2. At in- service training sessions shall be provided during the school year. <br />a. A minimum of thirty (30) minute, topic specific, training blocks may be provided. <br />b. A minimum of ten (10) total hours of training shall be provided during the school <br />year. <br />New Bus Driver Training <br />1. The Transportation Manager /designee shall document that knowledge and skill <br />tests contained in the State Department of Education's School Bus Driver Behind - <br />the -Wheel and Classroom Curriculum Manuals have been passed. <br />2. Documentation of previous training, similar to State Board of Education training <br />requirements, may be used to comply with new school bus driver training hours. <br />Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 <br />
