SCHOOL FACILITIES <br />FIRE EXTINGUISHERS <br />9375 <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />The safety of students within the Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 is of prime <br />concern to the Board of Trustees. As such, the Superintendent/designee is directed to <br />ensure that all fire extinguishers within the District are consistently and periodically <br />inspected to guarantee that they are fully operational. <br />Guidelines <br />1. Each building principal and /or Director shall provide an accurate map, clearly <br />indicating the location of all fire extinguishers. <br />2. All employees throughout the District shall be aware of the location of the building's <br />fire extinguishers. <br />3. Head custodians shall, within the first five (5) working days of each month, inspect <br />all fire extinguishers in their respective buildings. <br />a. The date of inspection shall be noted on each device tag. <br />b. A log of all inspections performed shall be kept in the custodial office for a period <br />of time not to exceed five years. <br />4. If a fire extinguisher is determined to be discharged or otherwise not functioning, the <br />head custodian shall notify the Director of Operations, requesting a replacement. <br />a. The Director of Operations /designee shall check the extinguisher to determine <br />usability. <br />b. If it can be recharged for continued use within the District, it should be recharged. <br />c. If it is determined that it cannot be used, it shall be appropriately discarded. <br />5. The head custodian shall maintain a back -up supply of operational fire extinguishers <br />at all times. <br />6. All extinguishers within the District shall be inspected annually by a certified outside <br />entity.
