INTERNET PUBLISHING
Online communication is critical to Bonneville District students’ learning 21st Century Skills. Tools such as blogging, podcasting, and video production offer an authentic
vehicle for student expression. Publishing photographs and videos of students and their
work on websites promotes learning and collaboration as well as provides an
opportunity to share student achievements.
Guidelines
Publishing Students’ Work, Photographs, or Videos
1. For elementary and middle school students:
a. Written parent/guardian permission shall be obtained prior to posting
photographs or videos of individual students on school websites.
b. Group pictures or videos without identification of individual students are
permitted.
c. Students’ work may be posted with a student identifier but shall not include any
personally identifying captions.
2. For high school students:
a. Students may be identified by their full name when individual photographs or
videos are posted on school websites.
b. Group pictures or videos with student identification are permitted.
c. Student work maybe posted with the student’s full name.
d. Parents/guardians of minor children shall be given the opportunity to opt-out with
regard to publishing student identification on school websites.
3. Teachers have no right to post information about minors on their personal websites
without permission from the students’ parent/guardian.
Use of Web 2.0 Tools
1. Classroom blogs, student protected e-mail, podcast projects, or other Web interactive use shall be considered an extension of the classroom and shall follow
established Internet safety guidelines.

2. Teachers shall thoroughly preview all online resources before using them with students. Content shall be:
a. Age appropriate and
b. Aligned with the Common Core Idaho State Standards.
Discipline
1. Students who do not use web tools appropriately may lose their opportunity to take
part in class communication projects and lose District Internet access privileges.
2. Teachers who inappropriately publish photos or videos of students or their work on the Internet, neglect to preview and monitor websites and materials, or neglect to
obtain parental permission for use of a website as required by the Children’s Online
Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) shall be subject to discipline up to and including
dismissal.
