Software residing on personal wireless devices must be personally owned. 2. Current virus protection software must be loaded along with the latest security patches for the device's operating system. 3. The device must be free of spyware, adware, worms, viruses, Trojan horses, and peer to peer software that could disrupt the network. Use of District Wireless Connections 1. Parents /guardians shall be provided the opportunity to grant or deny their child(ren) access to the District's wireless connections (see Wireless Internet Use Agreement Form #3275, #5335F). 2. Teachers have the right to restrict student's use of wireless devices while in their classroom or in other areas of the school when students are under their supervision. 3. Students or employees: a. may be assigned individual accounts, usernames, and passwords. b. shall not lend or borrow usernames, passwords, or account access. c. must use the District provided wireless connection that is filtered pursuant to the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requirements when using their personal devices at school. d. shall not use non - District wireless service providers while on District property. 4. Personal wireless devices are only authorized for wireless connectivity and shall not be plugged into the wired network. 5. All activity on wireless connections should be for educational purposes only. a. Classroom teachers will establish standards for personal wireless devices in their respective classrooms. b. Students shall not be allowed to access the wireless network unless supervised by a teacher or a staff member. Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 STUDENTS 3275P (also 5335P) Page 2of4 Use of Wireless Devices on the District's Wireless Network Appropriate Use 1. Sound must be turned off except when being used as part of a class and approved by the teacher. 2. Selection of appropriate, tasteful screensavers and wallpaper is expected. Inappropriate Use Students or employees should not: 1. Purposefully open, view, modify, or delete files belonging to another user without his /her permission or without permission of the classroom teacher. 2. Electronically post personal information (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, pictures). 3. Play games, listen to music, or view other entertainment unless approved by the classroom teacher. 4. Download copyrighted information without permission from the copyright holder or plagiarize. Prohibited Use Personal devices connected to the District's wireless network system shall not be used for: 1. Any illegal activity (gambling, pornography, computer hacking, unauthorized access to restricted information or network resources, etc.). 2. Intentional introduction of a virus or other malicious programs onto the District's system. 3. Posting messages or accessing materials that are: a. abusive, b. obscene, c. sexually oriented, d. threatening, e. harassing, f. damaging to another's reputation, or g. illegal. Disabling, bypassing, or attempting to disable or bypass any system monitoring, filtering, or other security measures. 5. Peer to peer file sharing (Kazaa, Limewire, Gnutella, Napster, Bit Torrent, etc.), a hosting service, or have an Internet Connection Sharing Service running. Responsibilities of Owners 1. Individuals who wish to use personal wireless devices on school premises must use the District provided wireless network connection that is filtered pursuant to the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requirements. 2. Owners are required to: a. Take full responsibility for setting up their wireless device. 1) Understand how to set up the personal device for use on the District's wireless network and ensure that it will work properly. 2) Provide any necessary cables, network cards, etc. required for the device to run correctly on the District's wireless network. 4) Install TCP /IP protocol. 5) Set the device to obtain an IP address automatically from a DHCP server. 6) Set the name for the device as the owner's real name with the last name spelled out. b. Maintain their personal wireless devices, making certain that they are charged prior to bringing them to school, etc. 3. If a device needs to be charged while on school property, the classroom teacher has discretion as to whether it will be allowed to charge. 4. Owners must assume personal responsibility while connected to the District's wireless network: a. To behave ethically and responsibly. b. For the way their device is used regardless of whether the owner or a borrower is using the device. Personal devices must be kept in a backpack or computer safe bag on school property when not in use. 2. Devices must never be left unattended in hallways, classrooms, the cafeteria, the library, the auditorium, locker rooms, unlocked lockers, etc. 3. Personal devices must go home with the owner daily.
