/>ChairmanLordswhoexpressedappreciationtothestudentcouncilfortheirleadershipandajobwelldone.HethenturnedthetimeovertoBrennan <br />Summers,StudentBodyPresident fortheStudentCouncilPresentation. <br />II.RollCall <br />BoardMemberspresent:ChairmanCraigLords,Vice-ChairmanAnnetteWinchester,TrusteeKipNelson,andTrusteeWendyHorman.Othersinattendance <br />were Barnes,andmembersofBonnevilleHighSchoolStudentCouncilwithBrennanSummersasStudentBodyPresident. <br />III.BonnevilleStudentCouncilPresentation <br />BrennanSummersstatedthatthestudentcouncilwouldreportontheirsuccessduringtheyearaswe llasthegoalstheydidnotreach.Hestatedthatthe <br />creditforthesuccessesgoestothecouncil.TheaverageattendanceatBHSis97.64%.TheyhavemadeprogressinoverallGPA.Agoodnumberof <br />freshmanattendedsportingevents.ThefocusthisyearwasshowingrespectandraisingGPA.ThesophomoresraisedtheiraverageGPAfrom2.671to3.03. <br />TheyalsohadanAcademicPledgeBannerwherestudentssignedandpledgedtobeDandFfree.Thecounciltriedtointermingleamongallstudentsto <br />showthattheiropinionsmatterandtoencouragemorestudentinvolvement.Theytriedtobuildunityandtriedtosupporttheseniorsin theirquesttograduate <br />byinformingthemofscholarshipopportunitiesandsponsoringcollegefairsattheschool.Thecouncilals oworkedwithlocalcompaniestobuildrelationships <br />thatwillhopefullylast.Theywanttogivebacktothestudentsandteachers.BrennanthankedtheBoardfortheirsupport,timeandeffort.HealsothankedMr. <br />PymmandMr.Miller.ChairmanLordsexplainedthatsettinggoalsandworkingtowardthemmakesitallhappen <br />ChairmanLordsaskedifthestudentshadanyquestionstheywouldliketoasktheBoard. <br />Pleaseexplainearlyrelease.–TherewillbeanearlyreleaseonWednesdaysatapproximately2:20 p.m.Thetimewillbeusedforcollaborationbytheschool <br />staffthatwillconcentrateoneverychildandhowtomeettheirneeds.Earlyreleasewillbeheldeveryweekwhenthereare fivedaysofschoolscheduled.Dr. <br />ShackettexplainedthatWednesdaywasthebestdayacademicallyforbothstudentsandteachers.TheproblemwithhavingitonMondayorFridayisthat <br />oftenparentstakestudentsoutforalongweekendwhenthereisanearlyreleasescheduledandtheDistrictcouldpotentiallylosealotof moneywhen <br />studentsareabsent. <br />Pleaseexplainthetimelineforthenewtechnicalhighschool.Thehighschoolisscheduledtoopennextyear.Weplantotakethreeyearstogetfullyupto <br />speed.Studentswilleventuallyhavetheopportunitytotakeall classesonsiteatthenewTechnicalCareersHighSchool.Wewillbeginwithautobody, <br />manufacturing,andculinaryarts.Wewillhopefullyaddapoliceacademyandfirstresponders.HOSAwillstayintheindivid ualhighschools.Wewill <br />eventuallyhirenewteachers.Nextyearwewillkeeptheteacherswhoteachautobodyandthenhire3½timeteacherstoteachmath,socialstu dies,and <br />English. <br />Whatisthenextstepwithstudentscomefirst?Nextyear,allteacherswillreceivealaptopandwillreceive in-serviceonhowtoeffectivelyusethemasa <br />teachingtool.Thefollowingyearthestatewilldistributecomputerstostudentsin1/3ofthehighschools.Weareinthep rocessofwritinggrantstogetlaptops <br />forbothhighschools inthefirstround.Therewillbenewstatetestingrequirements.Mr.PymmreportedthatonlythreestudentswereabsentfortheSATthis <br />spring.Thewayteachersarepaidhaschanged.Theycanearn extramoney forteachingin hardtofillpositionsorworkinginleadershippositions.Student <br />achievementwillqualifyteachersformoremoney. <br />Canwechangetheformatofseniorprojects?Couldwerequirestudentstoperformaservice?Seniorprojectsareveryindividual.Anythingstudentscoulddo <br />tohelpenhancelearninginthedistrictisgreat.Butwecan’trequireit. <br />District91hasasupplementallevythatallowsthemtoincreaseteachers’pay.Couldwedothatheresowedon’tlosesomanyteachers?Wehavea <br />$3millionsupplementalnowthatwillbevotedonnextspring.Thiscanbeusedforongoingexpenses.Therearethreewaysadistr ictcanincreasemoney <br />available.1)SupplementalLevy (twoyearlevy)thatcanbeusedforongoingcosts.2)PlantFacilityLevy (tenyearlevy)thatcanonlybeused tomaintain, <br />remodel,repair,furnishandequipexistingbuildings.3)BondLevycanbeusedtobuildnewbuildingsandotherprojectsapprovedbythevoters.District91 <br />hasn’tgrownasmuchaswehave.Wehavemoredebtbecauseoftheneedtobuildnewbuildings.ThereisaceilinginIdahoCodethatlimitstheamountof <br />debtadistrictcanincur.So,itwouldbedifficulttohaveasupplementallevycomparabletothatofDistrict91.Peoplein ourdistrictdon’twant toraisetheir <br />taxes.Thatwouldalsobeadeterrenttoalargersupplementallevy. <br />HastheFreshmanAcademybeenhelpful?Ithasbeensomewhatdisruptivetotheupperclassmenwiththedifferent bellschedulesandfreshmenmoving <br />throughthehallswhile theothersareinclass.Freshmenonthestudentcouncilbelieveithasbeenuseful.Mr.Pymmreportedthattheyareworking on <br />logisticstomakethepasstimebetter.Theycouldpossiblymoveallthefreshmentoonewing.HebelievesthattheAcademyhas madeasignificant
