IV. Student Recoanition
A. Idaho Outstanding Student Council Award
Chairman McBride recognized the Student Council students who sent "Thank -you" emails to the Board
earlier in the year. Your appreciation and gratitude were well received and appreciated. He then read the
criteria about the Idaho Outstanding Student Council Award. "To be considered for this award, Student
Councils are required to complete and hold a myriad of activities in different areas throughout the school
year. They must submit letters of recommendation and to reflect on the activities they held. The students
must attend conferences, give breakout sessions at conferences, and be active with the National Association
of Student Councils. Bonneville High School's Student Council was required to submit a professional e -
portfolio showcasing all of this information. The students were judged on overall professional appearance,
layout and uniformity of theme." This is the second year in which Bonneville High School Student Council
has won this award. It is your caring and dedication to the students at Bonneville High School that make the
difference.
Chairman McBride asked Krista Bumgardner, Bonneville High School Student Council Advisor to receive the
Certificate of Recognition for National Student Council of Excellence Award. The workshops created opportunities to share ideas and learn
about leadership. They were able to meet and learn from students from around the nation and the world.
The group was also able to enjoy a bit of history by visiting historical sights nearby: Washington, DC,
Williamsburg, VA, and Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Johnson voiced her appreciation to the Board for their support
for Bonneville High School Student Council and for their opportunity of attending this conference.
Freshman Class President Kim Smith spoke about the goals for the Freshman class, which were to know
each member of the Freshmen class by name and encourage them to be more involved with activities, such
as personalized Valentine's Day cards for each student, Holiday Hallway decorating, and social media. When the students received a trait card from their teacher, they could pick
up a special treat from the office. Activities were held each month that related to the monthly trait. The
sophomore class organized an anti -bulling campaign which encourages students to speak up against
bullying, anti -bullying bracelets to wear, and reminders on the morning announcements. Other activities
included hall decoration and paper airplanes. Activities make high school a positive experience for
everyone.
Junior Class Vice President Sarah Jorgenson informed the Board of the Junior class goals — increase
student participation, make students feel appreciated, and hold a successful Prom.
