STUDENTS
3355

Bonneville Joint School District No. 93
Student Suspension
Temporary Suspension, Extended Temporary Suspension, Prolonged Temporary
Suspension

1. The student is considered absent for attendance purposes.

2. Make-up work for credit is not allowed when the suspension is related directly to an
academic performance requirement.

Due Process Rights

1. Prior to suspending any student, the principal/designee shall provide rudimentary
due process to the student by granting an informal meeting on the reasons for the
suspension and the opportunity to challenge those reasons unless an emergency
suspension is necessary.

2. If an emergency suspension is necessary, the principal/designee will hold an
informal meeting as soon as possible after the emergency ceases to exist.

3. The student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) will be notified of any suspension.

Admission to School Premises or Activities

1. Any student who is suspended from attendance at Bonneville Joint School District
No. 93 is prohibited admission to any school premises or to any school sponsored
activity, regardless of location.

2. A suspended student’s presence on school premises or at school sponsored
activities is deemed a disruption to the educational process and/or detrimental to the
morals, health, safety, academic learning, or discipline of the other students.

3. If a student violates this provision, the district may refer the matter to the local law
enforcement agency.

DEFINITIONS

Emergency Suspension: occurs when, because of the circumstances, and because it
is necessary to protect the health and safety of all students, a student is suspended
without first receiving an informal hearing on the reasons for the suspension and the
opportunity to challenge those reasons.

Extended Temporary Suspension: is the exclusion of a student from school or
individual classes for an additional ten (10) school days. Only the Superintendent/
designee or the Board can extend a temporary suspension. The student is absent for
attendance purposes and does not receive credit for make-up work and, if applicable,
may lose credit for the grading period.
