Board members
present were Chairman Craig Lords, Vice Chairman Annette Winchester, Wendy Horman, Kip Nelson, and DeVere Hunt. Others in
attendance were Deputy Superintendent Bruce Roberts, Assistant Superintendent Marjean McConnell, Roger Hill, April Burton,
Todd Hicks, Assistant Principal Craig Miller, Assistant Principal Lance Miller, Principal John Pymm, Don Trauntvein and Board Clerk
Valerie Messick.

I. Bonneville High School Student Council
Chairman Lords apologized for the delay of the start of the meeting and thanked the student council for their patience.

Each class president presented their goals for this year. Freshmen: advertise sports, get loud at the assemblies and show
respect, reserve the front rows at assemblies for the loudest people, and encourage students to raise their GPA so they
can have extra lunch time. Sophomores: more intermingling to show that student’s opinions matter, help break down
groups, and make an impact and leave a legacy. Juniors: involve more class members, build new traditions while
supporting old traditions, and personally invite students to activities. Seniors: support students in their quest to graduate
and feel like this is the best year, inform students of scholarship opportunities, and make students aware of college
opportunities. Student body: maximize school unity and pride through smart advertising sports and club events,
participating in cheers, pursuing business contributions, academic improvement, and more service orientation.

Chairman Lords stated that meeting with the student council is one of the highlights of the year and thanked the s tudents
for having the meeting with the Board. He then asked if they had any questions for the Board.

Questions for the Board

1. “What can Bonneville High School do to become better?” The Board’s response was to continue to respect others, be kind
and inclusive, push academics, and continue with service. Meet people where they are and find those who are lost.

2. Why can’t the students use the auxiliary gym for the homecoming dance? Why can’t they hold the dance outside? Dr.
Roberts will get with Mr. Pymm to explore the issues and solutions.

3. Why don’t teachers have time to help students in the morning? The District has grown by 3,000 students and the state
has cut funding by $6 million. The District had to reduce the number of teachers.

4. Why is there not an ACT prep class offered at Bonneville? That is a matter that needs to be discussed with the
administration.

5. Is it possible for Board members or the superintendent to make appearances at school so the students know they are
supportive? Invite them to come to activities and they will most likely attend.

6. Why can’t clubs sell cinnamon rolls before school and during lunch time? Why can’t we bring outside venders in for lunch?
Food services need to keep the program in the black. There are also Federal Guidelines that they must follow. Work with
Mr. Pymm to see what can be done.

7. Is the freshman academy a District program or administrative? It is administrative.

8. Why can’t we wear hats? You can pursue that with the administration. They do have leeway with the policy.

9. Should senior projects be changed to being based on careers or college? The State Board of Education governs these.
The amount of time and emphasis can come from the school. Mr. Hunt stated that if you can change a hobby into a career
it would be great. He is concerned that some students don’t spend much time on the project while others do an excellent
job. Mrs. Winchester suggested that high school should be a place to try different things to determine what students would
like to pursue as a career or in college.

10. Girls would like to have a powder puff “Civil War”. Talk with the administration.

11. What is your opinion of weighted GPAs? The Board looked into the matter several years ago and it was found that
colleges don’t like weighted GPAs. That may have changed. Students could look into that and let the Board know what
the current thinking is.

12. Thank you to the Board for the new weight room. It gets used a lot and is awesome.
