Parents of children currently attending Discovery
commented most frequently, Those attending Cloverdale and Iona were second arid third in the number of comments posted, There is concern with kids going to Rimrock
then back to Rocky Mountain Middle School. Most comments on the blue plan were from the north end. Both the blue and purple plans are the same in the south because
we need to equalize numbers among the schools. When asked about the number of students involved in the changes, the answer was that Woodland Hills would lose
about 70 students to Mountain Valley and 30 would go to Rimrock from Mountain Valley. Mountain Valley will continue N have 8Ospots for open enrollment. There was
discussion about giving in district open enrollment Students priority at Mountain Valley, The 30 Students who would be moved to Rimrock boundaries should be given
priority m stay et Mountain Valley. |t|o essential that parents are made aware that they need m apply for open enrollment every year. There are 20 students from
Bridgewater who are presently enrolled in Mountain Valley. There should be room to waver into Mountain Valley f the parents want mdo so. Ne need m keep kids et
Mountain Valley so they can continue through the Curriculum. Having kids across the road going to a different elementary school is not an issue for most people.
There have been questions about common core. kis not a curriculum but an assessment, Mrs, Hix has produced a flyer that gives parents resources so they are aware W
the common core and what kids should be able w do. Mountain Valley's Curriculum will be closer mthe common core. Students learn about primary and secondary
sources. They ask questions such as, "can we trust it?" and "Is it right?" Students will receive good instruction at any Of Our schools.
There are three main issues. (1)Caribou Meadows should stay at their Current elementary so they can gomRocky Mountain Middle School with peers from their
elementary school, Mountain Valley students should bo allowed to remain at the school and participate in the curriculum through sixth grade. C0 Something needs to
be done to help Bridgewater.
There is quite a group that wants to stay at Iona from Falls Brook h
three trailers at Iona before. Bridgewater is concerned with the need for parental help. Bussing kids is a terrible option. Bridgewater is a good school. They possibly don't
raise as Much extra money as the other schools. Mrs. McConnell suggested that Lincoln Township could be moved to Bridgewater and the apartments could remain at
Discovery, We need to help Bridgewater with Public Relations. Maybe we Could hire a classified person to do Outreach and try to get more parents to become involved.
That individual could look at grants and opportunities that would support the school, We need someone to go out and talk to parents and help keep people in the school.
Mrs. Norman has been a benefit at the District level. Something similar Could work at the school level as well. We Would need to try to find someone who is bilingual. A
free and reduced lunch count of 70% of the school Population should to be a ceiling that would trigger looking at hiring a public relations person to assist the school. There
was concern that raising the total number of students at the school, would affect the ratio of free and reduced students and result in a reduction of federal services
available to students. There was a question about whether high achieving students receive any benefit from Title 1 Funding. They do not. We need to support our high
achieving students as well. There was discussion about the possibility of creating computer labs so those students can move forward. People haven't heard about the
good things happening with high achieving kids. We need to let parents know that we are aware of the needs We need to work on perception. PTOs often make a big
_difference _-_ school, . There was discussion the kinds — resources PT_ provide. _Bridgewater probably won't —_--' _ Woodland Hills,
Rimrock,m Mountain Valley. The possibility of using high school seniors m write grants and obtain funding mBYm students mhelp support schools was discussed,
There was discussion about meeting with parents of Bridgewater arid Falls Valley students to get ideas of how the Board can support the schools
To surn LIP today's meeting:
1.
