STUDENTS
3090

Bonneville Joint School District No. 93

FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS

The Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 Board of Trustees recognizes the benefits
from non-immigrant students in the classroom. The District does not, however, sponsor
student foreign exchange programs nor provide any financial contribution to the student.
The Board assumes no responsibility or control over items such as travel, living
accommodations, funding, insurance, etc., which remain the responsibility of the
sponsor and/or student.

Guidelines

The following guidelines are established to provide direction for the foreign exchange
students program:

1. Foreign exchange students must:

a. be affiliated with a foreign exchange student organization approved by CSIET
(Council on Standards for International Educational Travel), or

b. be a private arrangement in compliance with policies of Immigration and
Naturalization Services which include payment of tuition to the high school.

c. If a private placement is approved, all other rules that apply to foreign exchange
student organizations will apply.

2. Foreign exchange student organizations must contact and receive permission from
the high school before soliciting potential host families.

a. All foreign exchange students must reside with a host family within the high
school attendance area that they attend.

b. No more than two students will be accepted from any one foreign exchange
student organization.

c. The total number of foreign exchange students accepted at any high school will
be limited to ten.

d. Principals may adjust the number accepted in the event of a special
circumstance.

e. Placement of foreign students will be handled on a first-come-first-served basis.

f. Acceptance of an individual student is contingent on a review of his/her complete
profile including transcripts and a language proficiency exam.
