STUDENTS <br />1 -20 FOREIGN STUDENT ADMISSION <br />3095 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />In compliance with federal laws and regulations, the Bonneville Joint School District No. <br />93 Board of Trustees places the following restrictions on foreign students in F -1 <br />immigration status: <br />• Must be in full compliance with the regulations of the Student Exchange and visitor <br />Information System (SEVIS) of the Department of Homeland Security. <br />• Prohibits their attendance in public elementary schools (grades K through 8) or <br />publicly funded /adult education programs; <br />• Limits their attendance in public secondary schools (grades 9 through 12) to a <br />maximum of 12 months; and <br />• Requires them to re -pay the District for the full, unsubsidized per capita cost of <br />education for the intended period of study. <br />Guidelines <br />1. Foreign students requesting enrollment through an 1 -20 must pay tuition for each <br />month of attendance before the 1 -20 is issued. <br />2. The Board shall not grant waivers. <br />3. This policy does not affect foreign students in any other immigration status. <br />a. exchange students (who hold J -1 status), <br />b. F -2 students (dependents of F -1 students), or <br />c. students whose parents are here as diplomats, researchers or foreign workers. <br />DEFINITION <br />1 -20 Foreign Student: is certification that a student: <br />1) is or is expected to be a student, <br />2) meets any admissions requirements, <br />3) will pursue a full course of study, and <br />4) is proven to have enough money to study and live in the U.S. without working <br />illegally or suffering from poverty (pays tuition in advance). <br />Once the 1 -20 is granted, students receive F -1 status which allows them to remain in the <br />U.S. as long as they are registered students. <br />Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 <br />
