NON - INSTRUCTIONAL OPERATIONS <br />8125 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />TRANSPORTATION OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES <br />Transportation shall be provided as a related service when a student with a disability <br />requires special transportation in order to benefit from special education or to have <br />access to an appropriate educational placement regardless of distance from the school. <br />All other children with disabilities in the District have access to the District's regular <br />transportation system under applicable policies and procedures. Utilizing the District's <br />regular transportation service shall be viewed as the "least restrictive environment." <br />Guidelines <br />Special Transportation <br />The Child Study Team (CST) who develops the student's Individualized Education <br />Program (IEP) will determine when a student with a disability requires transportation <br />as a related service and specify such on the student's IEP. <br />2. Only those children with disabilities who qualify for transportation as a related <br />service under the provisions of the IDEA shall be entitled to special transportation. <br />3. If special transportation is a related service, a transportation representative shall be <br />invited to the CST meetings for development of the IEP. <br />4. If parents /guardians of students with disabilities choose to enroll their child through <br />open enrollment at another school within the District, they will be responsible for <br />transportation pursuant to District policy #3010 Open Enrollment. <br />Mode of Transportation <br />1. One of the District's special education buses will be the preferred mode of <br />transportation. <br />2. Exceptions may be made in situations such as but not limited to locations where <br />buses are prohibited from entering certain subdivisions due to inadequate turning <br />space or the distance from school may seriously impact bus scheduling. <br />a. Other arrangements such as an individual transportation contract may be agreed <br />upon with the parents. <br />b. Such agreement shall stipulate in writing the terms of reimbursement. <br />DEFINITIONS: <br />Special Transportation: shall include but is not limited to the following: <br />Bonneville Joint School District No. 93 <br />
